This everyday carry pocket knife is designed just like the tactical version that inspired it to be used. That’s why it’s overbuilt with an open build frame, high carbon stainless steel blade, and the signature Carson Flipper. Admire it. Then put it to work.
The M16 Z everyday carry series was designed by Vine Grove, Kentucky’s legendary custom knifemaker and Master Sergent Harold (Kit) Carson. After years of crafting knives for military use, he answered the call when it came to creating one for the civilian population. Now people everywhere have a blade that’s ready for the line of duty in whatever capacity they see fit.
An affordable everyday carry knife, the M16-10KZ features a dual hollow grind tanto-style blade available in plain edge and Triple-Point serrated edges similar to our Big Dog tactical M16 models. The result is maximum blade strength and ability to saw through cord, webbing, nets or vegetation quickly. It also comes loaded with a distinctive black frame and hardware with a non-reflective tactically inspired look. But at this price, you won’t feel guilty if you leave it at a job site somewhere as night sets in.
The blade opens easily when you need it most. Just put your finger on the Carson Flipper. Flick your wrist. Then it all locks into place with the AutoLAWKS safety that automatically actuates when the blades is open. It’s goodbye folder and hello fixed blade when locked. You’re safe and sound and ready to go.
Once you’re done with the task, pull the AutoLAWKS red pin back, slide the locking liner over, and fold it back up. The handle features easy-to-grip glass-reinforced nylon scales and a stainless steel lined InterFrame. Assembled with glass-reinforced nylon back spacers and Torx fasteners as well, the handle is rigid and offers excellent toughness and resistance to solvents. A one position, stainless steel pocket clip rounds out the features. Hold on and be ready to put this knife through anything.
This CRKT folding knife features a 3″ partially serrated tanto blade made from 8Cr15MoV steel.
8Cr15MoV steel and the MoV (or Cr) series of steels come from China and are equivalent to AUS-8 but containing slightly higher carbon content. You routinely get great value for money with this steel and good manufacturers have perfected the heat treatment process to bring out its best. 8Cr15MoV means that this knife’s steel contains roughly .8% carbon and 15% Chromium. 8Cr13MoV is a very capable steel with no legitimate weaknesses. Leading knife producers compare it to AUS-8. It holds its edge well, but is not as abrasion resistant as VG-10 or S30V. Edge stability is good, which means the edge can be thinned well. We’ve found that this steel is among the least complicated to sharpen. 8Cr16MoV steel is ordinarily hardened to HRC 58-60. 8Cr15MoV steel contains more chromium than comparable 8Cr13MoV and 8Cr14MoV steels, making it marginally more prone to rust.
Tanto blades are a modern blade shape popularized in the 1980s. The tanto shape is fashioned with the expressed purpose of strengthening the blade tip. The central feature of the tanto is that it consists of two separate edges, often with two different primary grinds.
This folding knife has a Glass-Filled Nylon handle with a black finish.
